Our Story: The History of Crownstone Equipment
Crownstone's History
At Crownstone Equipment, our journey began with a vision. In April 2018, McGrew Enterprises LLC, doing business as Crownstone Equipment, was established with the strategic acquisition of Bobcat of York and Bobcat of Adams County. That same summer, we acquired a third location, Bobcat of Frederick, marketing a period of rapid growth.
Driven by our commitment to serving our customer, we continued our expansion. In February of 2020, we launched a brand-new location, Bobcat of Hagerstown, followed closely by the acquisition of Bobcat of Lancaster. Our expansion didn't stop there - Crownstone secured the rights to a future location in Berks County and begin construction on Bobcat of Reading in February 2022.
But our story didn’t start with Crownstone Equipment. Our roots trace back to Greg McGrew’s original venture—McGrew Equipment Company—an enterprise built from the ground up with a deep understanding of agricultural and industrial equipment. Greg’s passion for the industry, coupled with his commitment to customer service and market expertise, laid the foundation for Crownstone’s success.
Under the leadership of Greg McGrew, who brings over 25 years of experience in the industrial equipment sector,, Crownstone Equipment is guided by a dedicated leadership team with diverse experience across multiple fields. Learn more about each of us in our "Meet the Team" section.
Today, Crownstone Equipment proudly stands as your one-stop destination for sales, parts, rentals, and service of construction equipment. We are more than just a business—we are a team dedicated to providing exceptional service, quality products, and a commitment to keeping you running strong.
Why The Name Crownstone?
In the spring of 2018, as McGrew Enterprises began acquiring Bobcat dealerships across the region, we recognized the need for a unified brand name that represented our growing network. The name "Crownstone Equipment" was carefully chosen for its local significance and historical roots.
The term "Crownstone" is a tribute to the boundary markers known as crownstones, which are placed every five miles along the Pennsylvania-Maryland border for 55 miles. These historic markers bear the coats-of-arms of both states, symbolizing a strong sense of place and history—values that align perfectly with our own. Today, while several of the original stones are missing or buried, many are still visible, resting on public land and protected by iron cages.
The Crownstone name reflects our connection to the communities we serve, our commitment to excellence, and our vision for continued growth. Today, the Crownstone brand unites our locations, including Bobcat of York, Bobcat of Adams County, Bobcat of Frederick, Bobcat of Hagerstown, Bobcat of Lancaster, and our Bobcat of Reading location.
Crownstone Equipment is conveniently located near the areas of Gettysburg, Hanover, Shrewsbury and Dillsburg.
